There is a "Song of the Week" that turns on automatically when you go to http://www.myspace.com/weeklybandemail This week’s Song of the Week is a slow blues burner called "I’m Gonna Haunt You" by Boston’s Ernie and The Automatics. This band boasts quite a line-up, including Ernie Boch, Jr. on guitar; Barry Goudreau, the legendary power guitarist for Boston on guitar and vocals; and Sib Hashian, the drummer for Boston, on drums. "I’m Gonna Haunt You" is one of 12 songs from the band’s first CD, "Low Expectations," which is due in stores on Tuesday, February 17th. The CD can be pre-ordered now through their MySpace page. You can also find out the touring schedule for Ernie and the Automatics as well as other information by going to their MySpace page at

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 2ND, 2009

Fifty years ago tonight was the day Don McLean refers to as "The Day the Music Died" in his classic 1971 song "American Pie". Buddy Holly (Charles Hardin), Richie Valens (Richie Valenzuela), and "The Big Bopper" (Jiles P. Richardson) had just finished playing a show at The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa, and the three decided to fly to their next show in Moorhead, Minnesota the next night. The three young performers, who were all on the cusp of making it big, and pilot Roger Peterson were killed when the plane crashed five minutes after take-off from a nearby airport in Mason City just after 1am. The plane only held three people plus the pilot. Waylon Jennings gave up his seat on the plane to J.P. Richardson, who was running a fever and was having trouble fitting his stocky frame into the tour bus. Tommy Alsup flipped a coin with Richie Valens for the third seat and Richie Valens won the coin toss. There is a special symposium planned tonight at The Surf Ballroom with relatives of the three musicians as featured speakers. All 2,500 tickets were sold out a "long, long time ago," when "the music used to make me smile."
